Malaysia and Qatar signed an agreement on Thursday at Putrajaya, the administrative center of the Malaysian Federal Government, to avoid double taxation and income tax evasion here.

Malaysian Deputy Finance Minister Ahmad Husni Mohamad Hanadzlah said the agreement would strengthen bilateral ties and further expand cooperation between the two countries to other areas, such as trade and investment, education, tourism, culture and information.

After the signing of the agreement, Qatar became the 68th country that signed such an agreement with Malaysia, and the 20th country of among 57-member the Organization of Islamic Conference, which concluded such a deal with Malaysia.

Bilateral trade volume between Malaysia and Qatar exceeded 1 billion ringgit in 2007, according to Malaysian statistics.(Xinhua)
