Vietnam earned $7.6 bln from agro-forestry-fishery products export
  2008-07-04 09:46:00

Vietnam raked in more than 7.6 billion U.S. dollars from the export of agro-forestry-fishery products in the first half of 2008, a year-on-year rise of 24.8 percent, the Vietnam News Agency reported here Thursday.

The increased earning was due to mounting prices and demands in the world market, said the agency.

Farm produce earned the largest turnover of 4.2 billion dollars, up 31 percent from the same period last year, followed by seafood with 1.9 billion dollars, posting an increase of 16 percent year-on-year.

Meanwhile, forest products contributed over 1.5 billion dollars, or a rise of 21 percent year-on-year.

Rice exports saw a rise of just 5.3 percent in volume, but enjoyed a twofold increase in value due to skyrocketed international prices. Other agricultural staples, such as coffee, rubber, tea, cashew nuts and pepper, all recorded high growth in turnover despite decreased volumes.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development said it will take a package of measures in the remaining months to maintain the sector's stable growth, including ensuring the sufficient supply of seeds and materials for agricultural production, stepping up livestock breeding, developing craft villages and boosting exports.(Xinhua)
