成当代艺术中心荣幸地宣布展览“介质转换”将于2018年3月17日开幕。本次展览以新媒体及互动艺术为主要对象,汇集了艺术家邓悦君、何盛源、彭显锋、阮悦来、宋戈文、吴梦诗、许仲敏、许倬尔、张丽丹、张沐辰、郑路的部分代表性作品及近年最新创作,呈现他们具有鲜明个人特质的艺术实践。
建立在数字技术基础上的新媒体艺术,以及依托于感应技术和动力机械装置的互动艺术已然成为当下最受关注的艺术类型之一。然而艺术之所以成为艺术,正在于其善用技术而超越技术乃至单一视觉所呈现出的深刻觉知。对以艺术语言变革为先导的新媒体及互动艺术而言,科技的应用尽管重要却远非艺术表现的核心,艺术家臻于以简化的交互技术缔造直抵心灵的“观看”经验。而在新媒体及互动艺术的语境中,“观看”已然超越了朴素意义中看与被看的二元关系,当作品结合视频、声音、修辞、交互技术,融合视觉、听觉、嗅觉和触觉的综合性感官刺激,多种艺术形式前所未有地紧密捆绑于一体,营造出的是无法还原回组合要素的复合体验。作品由此成为一件超级文本,允许多种路径进入以及丰富的多意解读,甚至可以被链接进入更广泛的其他文本中。所以,新媒体及互动艺术为观众创造的是虚拟与现实错综复杂的交叠和无限贴近未来幻想的可能。
展览以“介质转换”为名,有着三重内涵。首先,当科技成为艺术表现的“介质”,艺术家如何在创作中将其合理“转换”就成为验证作品成立与否的试金石。其次,观众经由与艺术作品的有机互动,参与改变了作品的造型、声音和运动轨迹,也改变了作品的内涵与外延,观众因此成为一种不可或缺的现场“介质”,最终完成了艺术叙事的“转换”。第三,相对于传统艺术形式,新媒体及互动艺术存在的空间和场域,乃至与公众之间的传播“介质”已经发生了剧烈的“转换”。在现代主义缔造的艺术生态中,艺术机构及其所策划的展览一直是艺术作品与公众之间的介质,而诞生在后现代社会语境中的新媒体及互动艺术逐渐被商业文化紧密拥抱,它们与公共空间逐渐培育出天然而暧昧的依存关系,以画廊为主体的艺术市场乃至曾经阳春白雪的艺术世界如何应对这悄无声息的介质转换,如何应对受迫性的身份转换,已然成为当下乃至未来的行业性问题。所以,“介质转换”,旨在提炼并强化新媒体及互动艺术以艺术体验和互动质感为核心的当代艺术语言和转换特征。
成当代艺术中心策划“介质转换”艺术展,正是渴望通过每年一度、延续下去的系列展览,梳理并呈现艺术之于一切可能的数字化媒体形式与美学的探索与实践。
展览将延续至2018年4月22日。

Cheng Center for Contemporary Art (CCCA) is pleased to announce that the “Media Conversion” exhibition will be open on March 17th, 2018. The exhibition takes the New Media Art and Interactive Art as its main objects. The exhibition brings together the representative works and the latest creation of Deng Yuejun, Singyoon Ho, Peng Xianfeng, Ruan Yuelai, Song Gewen, Wu Mengshi, Xu Zhongmin, Xu Zhuoer, Zhang Lidan, Zhang Muchen, and Zheng Lu, to present the artistic practice with their distinct personalities.
The New Media Art is based on digital technology, and the Interactive Art is based on inductive technology and power mechanism. Both have become the most popular art types. However, the reason why art is called art itself is that art exerts technology but not limited to it, and even goes beyond the perception presented by the visual form. For the New Media Art and Interactive Art, which are featured with the innovation of art language, the utilization of technology is important but far from the core of their artistic expression. Artists attempt to utilize the simplified interactive technique to create a heart-touching “viewing” experience. In the context of the New Media Art and Interactive Art, "viewing" means more than the binary relationship of seeing and seen. When artworks were combined with video, sound, rhetoric, and interactive technology, and became a fusion of vision, auditory, smell and touch comprehensive sensory stimulation, a variety of art forms were unprecedentedly integrated into an aggregation, which was an irreversible compound experience. Thus, an artwork becomes a hypertext that allows multiple paths to enter, to interpret, and can even be linked to a broader range of other texts. Therefore, the New Media Art and the Interactive Art create an overlap of the virtual and reality and a possibility of approaching to future fantasy infinitely.
The exhibition has three connotations in the name of "Media Conversion." First of all, when science and technology become the "media" of artistic expression, how artists make their rational "conversion" in their creation becomes the touchstone for the authenticity of artworks. Second, by interacting with artworks, audiences participate in the change of the shape, sound, movement, as well as the connotations and extensions of artworks, thus, the audience becomes an indispensable on-site "media," finally complete the "conversion" of art narrative. Third, compared with the traditional art form, the living space for the New Media Art and the Interactive Art, as well as their communication "media" to the public, have undergone a drastic "conversion."
In the art ecological environment created by modernism, art institutions and their exhibitions has been the only “media” between arts and public. However, the New Media Art and the Interactive Art, which were born in the context of post-modern society, have been gradually embraced by commercial culture tightly. Naturally, they established an intimate relationship with the public space. For the art market and the art world – one consists of art galleries mainly, and one used to be elitism -- how to respond to the creeping of the media conversion, and how to deal with the inevitable identity transformation, have become an industry issues of the present and future. Therefore, "Media Conversion" is aimed at refining and strengthening the contemporary art language and transformation characteristics of the New Media Art and the Interactive Art, with artistic experience and interactive quality as the core.
CCCA planning "Media Conversion", is keen to continue a series of exhibitions annually, reviewing and presenting the exploration and practice of art to aesthetic and every possible form of digital media.
The exhibition will continue until April 22nd, 2018.
